The other reason for the hiatus is that sadly, Angela was in a head-on collision mid-December. She sprained the entire right side of her body from the neck down. She is currently okay, but has a difficulty accomplishing simple physical tasks that require the use of the right side of her body and her recovery is going to take some time. With everything going on ( getting ready for a newborn baby, moving into a new home, Angela’s recovery and physical therapy ) we feel that it is necessary to take this hiatus so that we can focus on our personal lives until things settle back down. We want to be able to put 110% of ourselves into our business and currently that isn’t something we can easily do.

We will be slowly selling our inventory through etsy as there will no longer be an online shop. We will try keep our etsy shop stocked and open until right before I am due with my son. But there is always a chance I could go into labor before or after my due date. So please understand that we will keep you updated as to when the etsy shop will be back up and running. Also, with Angela’s injuries it is impossible for her to keep up with her daily life let alone attempt to dye any new stock right now. So what we will have listed on our etsy shop is all we have.

As we get closer to gearing up to returning from our hiatus and re-opening we will be making some exciting announcements on the blog and in the Ravelry group in regards to our future plans for Serendipitous Ewe.

Usually we try and have some sort of a coupon being given out at the entrance gate. But this year we are doing something completely different!!

Angela & I have decided to use this weekend long festival as an opportunity to have an inventory sale. We figured that since we need to make room in our inventory that we would try and give all customers an opportunity to stretch their budget further this year.

Price list for the entire weekend is as follows:

All Fingering/Sport Weight Yarns – $15.00 each ( normally $20-$25 each )
All Worsted/Bulky Weight Yarns – $12.00 each ( normally $18 each )
All Ewepsies ( oops skeins ) – $10.00 each ( normally $18- $25 each)

Just to clarify, our “Ewepsies” are the mistake skeins that we dyed incorrectly or that didn’t quite come out as expected. They are truly one of a kind skeins and can never been repeated again. There is nothing wrong with the yarn itself, just mistakes made with the dye techniques or colors used. Our Ewepsie skeins vary with the base yarn used so they are a great deal to be had if you want to try a new technique but don’t want to spend too much money. Or if you just want to buy a few skeins as gifts.

Also, we’re altering what methods of payment we will be accepting for the festival. This weekend we will be accepting cash and checks only for payment.

So congratulations to Lucy for such a creative submission. We would also like to thank all of you that submitted an entry and those that made attempts at the contest. It was a lot of fun for us to “stalk” everyone’s project pages. We look forward to doing a similar contest in the future for club members.

For those of you that haven’t heard about our Retro Video Game Sock Club here are the details:

The Retro Video Game Sock Club is a celebration of classic video and arcade games as well as our love of knitting. Each shipment will be inspired by classic games like Super Mario Bros, Pac Man, Metroid and Frogger… the possibilities are truly endless.

• The Round II 6 month subscription will have 3 shipments that ship every other month ( July, Sept, Nov ). You will receive a total of 4 skeins of yarn (the last shipment will contain two skeins). The 4th skein’s theme will be a retro or current game voted on by the club members.

• Base yarns will include Chance and Lucky Sock Yarns, as well as some of the other Serendipitous Ewe bases yarns, or something totally new and surprising,making these colorways extra special.

• Each sock kit will include a postcard of the video game, a skein of yarn (enough for an average pair of adult socks), and some fun surprises that are selected just for that theme. There may be exclusive patterns included in this club as SWAG, but feel free to knit whatever pattern speaks to you for that colorway.

The show was fairly busy all day for us and we saw a good amount of friends, “regular” customers and some wonderful new customers.

Also we dyed up some Hummingbird in spinning fiber for our booth at Sedalia. We brought it in BFL and a Merino/Silk blend.

Overall, we had a long drive to and from but with Monster & Starbucks we managed to stay awake and not curl up in the yarn bins for a nap! lol

Just a quick note for RVGSC members, we’re waiting on a “goody” to show up in the mail so we can ship out the packages. Because of this delay we will throw in an additional surprise goody for your enjoyment! We’re hoping to ship the packages by Wednesday, but we will keep you updated if it will be sooner or later than that. Also, we will wait until tomorrow to announce the winner of the contest and will cross post it between here and the Ravelry group. Thanks in advance for your patience.

70% Baby Alpaca 20% Silk and 10% Cashmere
Fingering weight yarn
approx. 430 yds per skein.

It is a very luxurious yarn with a delicate sheen from the silk. Angela & I both recommend this yarn for garments and shawls.

Angela & I met up in Frederick around 7:45 am on Saturday to avoid the traffic. Which worked amazingly. So we were some of the lucky few to avoid the insane traffic into the fairgrounds.

We stopped by the Cloverhill Yarn Shop Booth to see if they needed help ( and to shop…a little…;) ). Angela & I both bought some Dragonfly Fibers yarn and browsed through what Cloverhill had to offer festival goers.

Angela & I walked around and visited with the animals. We both fell in love with this super friendly sheep!

Also, we met up with one of our friends, Cinnamon of Tritium Designs. She designs lovely patterns for us and we love her for it!

Angela & I also hit up the fleece sale and rummaged through all of the fleeces. We both agreed to split a pretty nice 5 lb Cormo fleece I had found and just as I was about ready to pay for it, Angela started waving me over to her. She found the most gorgeous 7 lb 5oz Cormo fleece! And to boot it won 2nd place in the fleece judging. We cannot wait to process it! We both lugged it around for about an hour or so and were lovingly referring to it as our baby.

Angela headed out before noon with John & the boys. So I hightailed it to the Columbia Sip n Knit tent for the National Podcaster Meet N Greet.

It was so wonderful getting to meet them all at the Meet N Greet, everyone was friendly and happy. Jasmin & Gigi did a stellar review of our Chance Sock yarn on their podcast a few weeks back and commented on how lovely the yarn is knitting up when we were all at MDS&W. It was wonderful to have met them in person and to hear wonderful comments on our yarn in person. =D

Also at the meet n greet, there were goodie bags given to the attendees and the podcasters raffled off quite a number of wonderful prizes. I used my Flip video camera to record the raffle, but can’t quite get it to appear here on the blog. So look for that in the coming weeks as I work out the kinks.

Also I have to thank Tammi & Gingy again for hooking me up with a ticket to the After Party. I got to chat with all of the lovely pod casters all over again and meet a whole group of new knitters. My friends on Ravelry has increased significantly since last weekend.

All in all I’d have to say MDS&W was a lot of fun and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We’re already making our plans for next year’s MDS&W. I believe the fleece auction will be involved and lots of fun.

On the Admin side of things happening at Serendipitous Ewe…

We will be vending at the Sedalia Fiber Festival May 15th 2010 in Big Island, VA. Which is coming up very quickly! We hope you all decide to come to this growing festival.

Also, don’t forget! The cast on date for the Serendipitous Ewe/Westknits KAL is fast approaching! Make sure to read through your patterns and gather notions and anything else you need to CO on May 17th 2010.
