Exclusive Colorways and Sock Club

November 23, 2009 by faireattention

Angela has handpainted 3 exclusive colorways for SandraSingh’s online shop.

Silver Shadows - Shades of grey with a silvery white, very distinguished and a nod to the vampires of yesteryear.
Twilight Sky – Blue, turquoise, rose and purple reflect the evening sky.
Autumn Glow – Warm oranges mingle with reds to create a fall blaze of color, its like the sun is putting on one last show before the nights grow longer.

Fate Fingering

“Angela dreamed up these lovely hues as a tribute to some of the famous vampires…Nosferatu, the Count, Vampire Lestat, Edward, Eric and Vampire Bill, but you don’t have to be a vampire lover to *love* what she’s created, these colorways are timeless!” – Sandra Singh

Serendipitous Ewe Recovery

August 27, 2009 by serendipitousewe

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and well wishes as I am recovering from my Knee Replacement surgery. It has been a difficult recovery, but I am finally off the walker and moving around with the assistance of a cane. In the mean time production has been moving forward all be it at a slightly slower pace.

The response to our Limited Edition Dye for Glory colorways has been considerable. So, due to the high demand of our Limited Editions, our return from a very successful Sock Summit and our temporary production delays, orders are taking slightly longer than our normal production period. Orders placed during Sock Summit and after should be shipping out later this week or early next.

I feel terrible about the delay so all orders will include a special gift as our thanks for your understanding while we get back up to speed. In addition, you will find an 15% off coupon below that can be used on our website through the end of October.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We love what we do and are happy to have you as part of the Serendipitous Ewe community.

Thank You Discount

In order to say thank you for being patient with us during our time of recovery, we would like to extend a one time 15% discount on any future order.

Sock Club Shipments!

August 17, 2009 by faireattention

Kate here again!

And have I got some news for you!

First of all The Retro Video Game Sock Club shipped today!

I went to John & Ang’s house on Sunday with my little monster Gwen in tow! ( they are so nice to let me bring Gwen to work! ) She played with their boys and was well behaved. So because of her good behavior I got a bunch of skeins of Bobby Socks dyed up. While I dyed yarn, John set up the “factory lines” for Ang and she put together the sock club shipments.

Ang & I suggested that John take some pictures of the boxes among other things. ;)

IMG_1570

We even made sure that your boxes got inspected by the most regarded “man” in the fiber business.

IMG_1578

Cadby the bunny is in need of a clipping/shearing soon I would think. But even with the Maryland heat/humidity he is doing very well. And is very soft & nice to handle. ( I held him while I waited for John to situate the angle for the pictures and he is incredibly lightweight for such a fluffy bunny! )

The boxes shipped out on Monday 8/17.

We know many of you love a surprise but if you’re like me then you hate waiting and not knowing what is in your shipment!

So as a courtesy I have offered to you a hint!

This game was popular enough to have a breakfast cereal created and was made out of sweetened corn “bits”.

As a courtesy to others in the sock club that haven’t gotten their shipments or non-club members we ask that you use a SPOILER warning as the first page of your stash acquisition. I have made a quick version of a spoiler alert for you all. Please feel free to use this image. Cadby would be proud! ;)

I know some of your have expressed concern for Angela. So I am including an update & info for you all on this post.

Ang is recovering, but is having some trouble here & there. Mostly with the pain. A partial knee replacement is not minor surgery at all. And at times she is incoherant due to the pain. But she is a trooper and is very dedicated to her business. However, she has trouble with carrying on a normal conversation, answering emails easily or responding to PMs on Ravelry in a timely manner. So in the event that you have any questions please send them to me. I will then refer all questions to Ang & ask her for her answers over the phone. I will respond to any and all questions via comments, email or PM on Ravelry.

My email is:

And a quote from Ang best represented through Charlie Brown’s Teacher!

Keeping You Updated!

August 14, 2009 by faireattention

Kate the Yarnie Assistant here!
Giving you all a much needed update!

First of all we at Serendipitous Ewe would like to take a moment to thank the many of you that attended SS09 and supported Angela, John & I in this crazy obsession with fiber & knitting. Also, thank you to those of you who placed orders on our site and posted the kind words on Ravlery. And we would like to thank the people that have been supporting Serendipitous Ewe from the very beginning.

Without all of your support we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Finally, we would like to thank the Sock Summit Team, the talented teachers, the many vendors and the attendees. This was an amazing event that took a great amount of planning, sweat & tears. I know we all hope there is another Sock Summit in the future and for many years to come.

With that said =D. Ang & John are back from the Sock Summit. They’re tired, exhausted and in a daze from everything. But they had a wonderful time and met some really great people.

Below are a few pictures from the booth at Sock Summit.
Serendipitous Ewe Booth

SE Booth

One of the highlights for Serendipitous Ewe was having Casey & Jess, holding the Bob puppet ( founders of Ravlery ) purchase some Bobby Socks.
They later took this picture with Angela at the Ravlery Party.
Casey, Ang & Jess at SS09

Once Ang & John’s plane arrived in Maryland from Oregon Ang went straight into a major surgery. She had a partial knee replacement. ( Which was a long time coming for her. )

I am happy to say that Angela came out of the surgery alright and went home from the hospital midway into this past week. However, she is having some complications with her at home recovery. Due to this fact some of the shipments will be slightly delayed as John & I are trying to fulfill orders and finish getting all the pieces together for the Retro Video Game Sock Club. I finished dying the last of the Sock Club skeins today, worked on some of the orders and assisted Ang with a few things.

Sunday I will be returning to Ang’s house in hopes that I am able to get the Sock Club shipments put together and boxed up. Along with that I will do my best to get more of the orders fulfilled.

So please bear with us as we try and help Ang with her recovery.
The Sock Club will ship on Monday most likely.
I will update you if it has to be pushed back another day or two.

Take Care and Happy Knitting!

Sock Summit Colorways

July 9, 2009 by serendipitousewe

We are busy gearing to head to Sock Summit 2009 being  in Portland Oregon on August 6-9. Serendipitous Ewe will be in Booth #502. We have been packing boxes and boxes of yarn to head out West before we take a vaca to Disney from July 19 – 26.

I have also been busy in the dyepots. We will be debuting 3 new colorways at Sock Summit.

The first is inspired by Ravelry. Ravelry has really impacted the fiber arts community in such an amazing way. What better way to to celebrate Ravelry than to design a yarn that is themed around its mascot Bob. The colorway is called Bobby Socks and is dyed in a subtle striping pattern.

bobbysocksballskein

I have cast on Cat Bordhi’s Coriolis sock which will be on display in our booth.

The second colorway is inspired by Sock Summit 2009 logo.

logo_button_118x125

We are very excited to be a part of this fabulous event that celebrates the passion of sock knitters. The colroway is called Apogee and is dyed in a self striping pattern. The striping pattern spans over a 20 rows.

apogeeballskein

I will be knitting this colorway in Cat Bordhi’s Woven Ridge Socks which will be on display in our booth.

Both of these colorways have been entered in Ravelry’s Dye for Glory competition. Apogee is in the self striping category and Bobby Sock is in the Random Stripes category. So, if you are on Ravelry make sure that you vote. Voting opens on July 23 and ends on August 3.

Apogee and Bobby Socks are available for preorder the through the Serendipitous Ewe website for either pick up in Booth 502 at SS09 or to have it shipped to you.

And last but not least, the third colorway is called Big Bang. It is in our Kettled Transitions series and is quite a departure from my norm. It is a combination of 12 different colors and the results truly are a Big Bang of color.

Happy Summer Knitting!

TNNA and the summer

June 18, 2009 by serendipitousewe

Well, Serendipitous Ewe just returned from TNNA. Y2Knit represented us there and yarn will be heading out to LYS this summer. As we fulfill the orders we will update our website and blog with our newest retailers.

We have introduced new colorways in the Kettle Transitions series at TNNA…

So other news… We are getting stock ready to ship out to Oregon for the Sock Summit in August and we are also getting ready for the first sock club installation which is due to mail out in mid-August.

We hope everyone is having a relaxing start to summer.

The yarnie assistant introduction

June 1, 2009 by faireattention

For those of you that missed it, Angela officially made me her “yarnie assistant”.  So in order for you all to get to know me I figured I’d give you some background and such.

My name is Kate Hamm and I met Angela last summer when I started going to a Sit & Knit in Frederick, MD. We became fast friends and over time began to collaborate and share ideas. I have watched Angela’s love for yarn, spinning & knitting grow into what is now Serendipitous Ewe.  It was very exciting for me to see her business grow,  gain new friends and of course opportunities.  I love helping her with the background work and better yet brainstorming new ideas, future plans and best of all new colorways. Officially I will be working on items for the Phat Fiber boxes, helping out with the blog and anything else Angela needs assistance with. So you will definitely be seeing my presence on the blog here giving you updates, sneak peeks and sharing projects I am working on.

With that said, here is one of the many projects I have on the needles…
Angela had started this is a sample for TNNA, but asked me to finish it up for her. I am learning that Angela is a much better knitter than I am! This is the Aurora Borealis colorway knit up in the Jaywalker sock pattern by Grumperina. You can find this very easily on Ravelry or on Grumperina’s website.

Aurora Borealis Jaywalker

For those of you on Ravelry, you can find me lurking around under the name faireattention or katydidknitwear. I look forward to blogging and keep you guys up to date on the happenings at Serendipitous Ewe!

Happy Knitting!

Squeee…. a Finished Project!

May 26, 2009 by serendipitousewe

Its amazing… I actually finished a project!  I am notoriously known for not finishing a project completely. LOslipnslidefinishedL

Anyway, I just finished knitting the Slip n’ Slide baby sweater by Y2Knit.

It was really enjoyable to knit. The pattern was easy to follow.  I made one modification to the button closure.  I knit a two stitch i-cord and looped it around the buttons on the front. It ended up being absolutely perfect.

I made the 9 month size and it only took 1 skein of Fate Worsted in the Deep Blue Sea colorway and 1 skein of Fate Worsted in the Blueberry Parfait colorway. I only used the Blueberry Parfait for the edging, i-cord and a few rows at the base of the sweater so there is plenty of that skein left over to do a hat and booties to match.

This sweater was done to be a sample knit of the Fate Worsted yarn and will travel to shows with us. We will also have the pattern for sale in our online shop and at any festivals we are at.

The next project I am working on is the Flirty Tank from Y2Knit. I am knitting it in Fate Sport in the Pansy colorway.

flirty tank

It is going very well so far.  I am planning to have this finished by the end of the week. So, keep your fingers crossed that the knitting fairies keep luck on my side.

Sedalia and Other Fiberlicious News

May 22, 2009 by serendipitousewe

Well, the Sedalia Spring Fiber Festival was an absolute blast.  The booth we had was just wonderful and the set-up went fabulous.

The day was great fun… there was good food, we were surrounded by talented vendors and we made a lot of new friends. We had so much fun that we have already reserved our space for next year.

We also ended up bringing home a new friend… drum roll please, now introducing…  Cadby the Angora Bunny!

cadbyCadby is a 100% German Angora Rabbit. He is only 4 months old. He will not only be a pet to the boys but he will also be providing me with some fiberlicous angora to use for the Serendipitous Ewe Handspun line. The handspun line will be called Cadby’s Handspun! So as soon as Mr. Cadby grows his coat back and can be sheared I will put my newest spinning wheel, the Majacraft Rose, to use.

Since we have been back I have been busy in the dyepots… there are 3 new colorways to introduce… Blueberry Parfait, Strawberry Fields and Jungle.
